2021 UGA Football: Week Thirteen

UGA Instant Analysis  Week 13: W @ Georgia Tech; 12-0  Georgia Tech provided another game where little worthwhile analysis came from, but I’ll return to the normal layout at least for a little before opening up to the rest of the country. Special teams earns the first spot this week, but there wasn’t anything terrible from the unit. The usually-dependable Jake Camarda didn’t excel but to be fair he spent most of his time bored as the offense kept the ball comfortably most of the game. The return game struggled some too, but again, nothing concerning or overwhelmingly poor. Offense goes next but it was a lot closer than normal. I wanted to see more points and some more efficiency early, but overall Coach Monken’s crew put it on Tech while keeping it simple. That’s one big point I thought about this week — Coach Monken never had to open the playbook this regular season, so he has a lot to throw at Alabama next week and whoever waits in the playoffs. He wasn’t asked to do much, but I be

2021 UGA Football: Week Twelve

UGA Instant Analysis  Week 12: W vs. Charleston Southern; 11-0  We didn’t learn much from this week about Georgia’s national title chances, and we probably won’t learn much from next week either. The priority here is staying healthy and it seems like Georgia walked away with minimal damage. What we did learn this week is a little about the young bucks, and some of the new players look special. Xavien Sorey, William Poole, Chaz Chambliss, MJ Sherman, and a bunch of other youngsters balled out this week. Because of the game, I’ll get a chance to talk more of what Odin Development is intended to talk about: leadership in sports. Watching Jordan Davis score a touchdown was really fun. He gets a lot of attention for his size and strength, and rightfully so. What stands out the most to me is his personality and leadership. I never met him, so I base my character analysis on interviews and how people around him interact, but he really seems like the kind of young man you build teams around.

2021 UGA Football: Week Eleven

UGA Instant Analysis  Week 11: W @ Tennessee; 10-0  If you listened to the experts before the game, maybe you expected a close one. If you listened to social media after the first quarter, maybe you thought Georgia was in trouble. But as zeroes flashed on the clock, it was another beat down at the hands of Coach Smart’s Dawgs, and I believe the best performance of the season. No — it wasn’t the most dominating result by Georgia, and no — they didn’t win by the largest margin of the season, but Georgia faced a ridiculous amount of adversity and counter-momentum heading into Neyland and left victorious. Remember what matters: good teams win, but great teams cover. Georgia covered despite having every reason not to.  For the second time this season I will break away from the pattern. I will keep it simple and highlight some concerns and some encouragement, and you should know by now I’m a “bad news first” kind of guy.  As expected, when an opposing offense has some success, especially o

2021 UGA Football: Week Ten

UGA Instant Analysis  Week 10:  W vs. Missouri; 9-0  While not all Braves fans are Georgia fans, all Georgia fans are Braves fans, so our sports excitement is at an all time high. The Braves closed out a season to remember forever this week, so now it’s time for the Bulldawgs to match it. For Georgia Football — another slow start, another strong finish. Missouri is not very good, so to watch their offense have some success, and Georgia go almost the whole first quarter without points was alarming. Like good teams do, Coach Smart’s young men turned up the heat and left no doubt who the better team on the field was. Georgia’s got the biggest test remaining next week against a dangerous Tennessee offense, so they’ll need to settle down from the injuries and off-field noise and set up to dominate UT on the road. Despite the slow start, and everything going on around the program, I am convinced now the only thing standing between UGA Football and a national championship is consistent quar
